At some point while reading this website, you’re likely to have questions.
Level Praying Field is full of multi-layered, complex ideas. They come across most clearly if you read the pages of The Bigger Picture in sequence, following the “Next” links at the bottom of each page.
Even then, you may scratch your head. Or resist something you read. “Wait, that doesn’t sound right.”
If that happens, it’s a wonderful opportunity. It means you’re at the limits of your current understanding and are on the threshold of seeing something bigger and more comprehensive. Remember the “R”
To get that broader view, you have to be willing to consider something that’s beyond what you know now. If you get stuck in certainty (“I know my card shows a rectangle and that’s that”), you’ll never inquire further.
What to do at your “Huh?” moment(s)
In those inevitable moments when something doesn’t make sense, stay curious. Don’t assume you know. Let yourself consider a Bigger Picture.
To give that Bigger Picture the time and space to reveal itself to you, I suggest you do three things:
1. Identify your reliable higher authority.
What resource do you trust to help guide you in life? It could be your “still, small voice.” Your Higher Power. Your sense of knowing. Your dreams. Your gut hunches. Jesus. Allah. Brahman. The Tao. The Great Mystery. Or if you don’t believe in a Higher Power, what do you most honor? Perhaps the force of nature, or the force of love itself.
This higher authority is what you rely upon when you’ve got a big decision to make, when you’re seeking solace in the face of great challenge or sorrow, when you’re in a car crash, or on your deathbed. Eek. Yes, That.
Notice I am asking you to identify the authority that speaks to you directly. I’m not telling you to run to someone else and make him or her your authority.
2. Ask that higher authority – however you name it – to reveal the truth to you.
Ask simply to be shown. You don’t have to, but I recommend that you literally ask aloud. Here are some examples of how you can construct your question, but make it authentically yours. Ask…
- for clarity about your “Huh?” (the point here that puzzles you)
- for help in taking the next step in understanding
- to be shown any falsehoods in your life
- for clarity about what, if anything, you are not seeing clearly
- for truth
3. “Watch the movie.”
That’s the way a teacher of mine used to describe it. As your life plays out before you over the next days, weeks, even months, just watch. Watch the parade of life go by.
Listen for overheard snippets of conversations as you pass by strangers. Watch the ads that go by on buses. Look for scribbles on paper scraps that didn’t quite make it into the trash can. Feel yourself drawn to a book, open it and let your eye fall on the page to see what’s written there.
Your answers can be anywhere in the unfolding movie of your life, but you will know they’re meant for you by the tug of truth and relevance within you. That same teacher of mine used to call it “velcro.” Something sticks inside. When you feel that tug, it indicates an answer for you.
Keep doing this, and a picture will emerge. The picture directing you to your next growth edge. Your “bigger picture.”
The main thing is that your answers will come in your life, from your authority, in a language that is unique to you. It’s your truth talking to you.
Trust that above anything, even more than anything you read here.
If that sense of truth encourages you to do so, read on. You can always contact us with your questions, too.
